Dhaka (Bangladesh) traffic has been called one of the 7 wonders of the modern world. To be fair, this is a street adjacent to New Market and isn’t really a normal traffic road. For example, rickshaws are prohibited. Bangladesh has been promoting the use of natural gas (CNG) for over a decade resulting in significant reduction in smog.

it’s like that in Bangkok too…actually, I think it’s worse in Bangladesh! I’ll never complain about midtown traffic ever again.

cc: Good photo, but it’s way too orderly to compare with Dhaka. Dhaka has no traffic lights. Major intersections are staffed with a traffic cop who carries a stick. I’ve seen one used to whack the hood of a misbehaving car. Otherwise, decisions are made by bravado and horn. The street music of horns and bicycle bells is the heartbeat of the nation. It’s constant whether in Dhaka (14M people), Khulna (1M people) or the tiniest village.
This is amazing. It makes me feel much better about living in New Jersey…

Looks a lot like Delhi. Wonderful capture of chaos. And yet I’m sure in practice that it has a very clear order of its own, right?
This area has a innate order. But traffic in other parts of Dhaka is world famous for its chaos. Driving on the wrong way on a divided highway to get around a jam, horns blaring all the time with bravado at the wheel. Orderly chaos perhaps.

There are real interaction between people and vehicles here. There seemed to be no proper pedestrian pathway or there is but with too many people using the same road. Nice shot.
